Doctoral of Philosophy Program in Dentistry
Programme’s Philosophy
The Doctor of Philosophy Program in Dentistry is a research-intensive curriculum focused on generating new knowledge and/or creating innovations relevant to the field of dental science. This new knowledge pertains to the changes and pathogenesis of various oral structures in relation to systemic bodily changes. A deep understanding of these mechanisms and pathological changes will lead to the application and advancement of new knowledge for the prevention, promotion, and treatment of dental patients, as well as the creation of innovations or the practical utilization of local wisdom products to meet dental needs. Currently, Thailand is dependent on the importation of materials, equipment, and pharmaceuticals from abroad for treating dental patients.
This program emphasizes a student-centered instructional approach, ensuring the transfer of knowledge and extensive experience from highly qualified and expert faculty members. It is dedicated to promoting the learners’ potential to independently and continuously pursue self-directed inquiry relevant to their dissertation research. Furthermore, learners gain experience through hands-on practical work in their own research projects.
Consequently, the program aims to enable PhD graduates to analyze and synthesize various disciplines, such as basic sciences, oral biology, dental material science, oral epidemiology, or other oral health-related fields, and to integrate these sciences through an interdisciplinary approach.
The Doctor of Philosophy Program in Dentistry at the School of Dentistry is vital for the advancement of the dental profession, which will address the oral health development of the public, ultimately leading to improved oral health among the Thai population. Moreover, it serves to cultivate highly knowledgeable, expert, and experienced human resources in the academic and research fields of dentistry, and to apply the newly acquired knowledge from research for the continued benefit of the nation.
